After the success of their first virtual event in 2020, McCain's decided to keep their biennial conference as a remote broadcast event for their employees across North America. Rise & Shine was the 3rd annual installation of the event, premiering at 10am EST and heavily drawing inspiration from morning talk shows. The theme of the event and the logo design were provided by McCains, but the rest was up to Unbridled's team to bring to life.

Our in-house Scenic Designer was on sabbatical during early phases of planning, so I helped our Production team out by throwing in a bid option for the set design (04) of the show. I did some architectural drawing in college, so why not? I collaborated closely with our Executive Producer to understand the client's taste from previous events, and better understand cost restraints from a material and layout perspective. To my surprise, that initial sketch was chosen, tweaked, and became the blueprint for the entire set design and dressing of the morning show!

Sketching that set design turned out to be a huge blessing when it came to making the motion package. I had a good understanding of the vibe the client was after and could make my designs fit seamlessly with the developing looks of the physical show. Something bright, playful and full of energy. I had two weeks to get approvals on a first round of motion assets—including an opener (01), presenter titles, alpha segment bumpers (02), lower thirds and tickers (03). Once this two weeks was up I needed to move on to another client and pass on the files to a team member.

This show really gave me a great opportunity to mess around with the essential properties panel in After Effects. Making easily editable templates was key for consistency across the many repeated assets. I designed them in a way that imagery, video, and text could easily be swapped out without breaking the core animation. Rise & Shine broadcasted from Toronto, Canada without a hitch!
